Hanging on

Esther has recovered from surgery well.

On Monday we meet with the doctors to discuss these final attempts to help her. They talked us through trying to wean off ECMO. And also what would happen if we couldn’t. They kind of gave us a deadline but we let them know that we are fine with giving her a fighting chance and if she passes while fighting we are alright with that.

Each day they are trying to wean her off ECMO. The ECMO circuit is at it’s lowest settings for support. They prep her to clamp off the ECMO so Esther has to support herself. She is on the ventilator and that is giving her O2. Esther’s left lung is practically non existent, and her right lung is really weak and damaged. We need her right lung to support her and the doctors are convinced that it can’t. It’s hard for us because it seems that each day she is getting a tiny bit stronger. We just don’t know if it will be enough.

Tuesday they clamped her off ECMO and she crashed really quick. They were going to try again today with her on the oscillator instead of the vent. Once they switched it, Esther did not like it and they put her back on the vent. They didn’t have a chance to test her off ECMO.

Today Esther has been sleepy. It’s probably a result of her working harder and have carbon dioxide build up in her. Still praying she is strong enough.

It has been a hard week for us.

Esther today after she had her hair washed.

What a formidable battle you are in Dave and Lauren. . . My heart is so heavy for you both as you go through this. I am doing all that I can prayer-wise that I know how to do. I continue to pray that Esther will heal and develop miraculously. I am confident in our Lord’s power, and yet, I am with you in your decisions. Just know that you are constantly in our thoughts. You are a brave and vital testimony to everyone of the Lord’s grace under trial. May you feel His presence in the most personal way now, and in the hours ahead.
    I pray for that.

She is incredibly beautiful! I love the pictures of her…her full head of hair, her long slender fingers- everything about her is so precious!…As a mother, my heart is so heavy for you. I can’t image what you have faced this week. I feel like there aren’t adequate words to express what is in my heart. I just want you to know that you are often in my thoughts, that I am praying and that I want so desperately for the Lord to heal her lung and give her the strength she needs.

So wonderful to see her pictures and to know how to pray, and to hear of the tiny progresses and answers to prayer (daily miracles!)…
yet hard to read the cold “facts” that you have to face; and yet we all continue to hope and pray for much more!! Believing with you Romans 4:
…God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. (‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭17-21‬ NIV) !!!!!!
